Bay of Birsay

Pretty windy up in Birsay today with the storm sweeping in. Pity they gave it a name like 'Dennis'. I'm not criticizing the name as such, it just isn't very evocative. The easiest bird shot was of a whooper swan from the hide at RSPB The Loons. Less easy, as in impossible, was the flock of nine snow buntings near Birsay Palace. They were impossible to see in the windblown sand on the beach, and when they rose, the wind just took them. There was a sign of spring, though, in the three hares chasing and fighting on the hill.
