Bird's Eye Shot - of a Robin

My husband and I decided to go for a walk to a local water park and nature reserve this morning - housework is for when it is raining!

It was very slippery underfoot, so I tended to walk on the soft snow at the sides of the path because although I have plenty of padding, I did not want to risk falling. We had walking boots on and were well wrapped up against the cold, but unbelievably saw a woman wearing high heeled boots!!

We saw lots of different birds - a tree creeper, robins, long-tailed tits, blue tits, coal tits, blackbirds, thrushes, red wing, wren, tufted ducks, gossander, pochards, swans and cygnets, moorhens, herons and a cormorant - oh nearly forgot the mallards, seagulls and pigeons!

This little robin seemed to be very tame and you can see from the angle of the shot how close he came to me - very exciting!

We stopped and talked to a serious bird watcher and bird photographer who was on a mission to find a goldcrest and photograph it in the snow. He explained to us that some birds will come for food, but goldcrests come when they are called, and he showed us his bird caller, a nifty little instrument - fascinating.

As we walked on, we saw a tent pitched by the side of the lake, so I jokingly asked the young man standing outside if we were in time for coffee and hot dogs. An older man by his side said we were just too late! We then had a conversation with them - and the young man showed us the inside of his tent complete with camp bed, cooking facilities and almost all mod cons! He said had been camping and fishing for a week and said it was fantastic at night being out in the snow. Apparently, last night they were out in just tee shirts - brrrrr!!

All in all a good morning - even if it was cold - and we have been promised more snow tomorrow.
