Kauri

I was finishing off some knitting this afternoon and of course out comes this little needle holder. It was hand made in New Zealand from Kauri wood and I know I have had it many years, because I remember buying it in Kerikeri, North Island, on our first visit to New Zealand when we were staying in Russell. It was in a shop with lots of wooden crafted items. I picked it up and thought - perfect!

And it is perfect. It holds large sewing up needles safely, the top fits just right and it feels like a lovely piece of turned wood. It looks a bit battered and so it would be as it has travelled with me - where my knitting goes, it goes. And it is tiny, as you can see by the needles - just 9cm long.
