Bix Brand

This morning the spaniel and I walked part of the Oxfordshire Way (linking the Costwolds and the Chilterns). At one point I was able to look downhill on to the ruins of the tiny medieval church of St James, the only structure left of the village of Bix Brand which was abandoned in the 19th century in favour of a new village a mile to the south. It is thought that Nell Gwynne (mistress of Charles II) worshipped in this church.
