All Grown Up!

This is the praying mantis I blipped 11 days ago when it was a nymph in the fifth instar. Today it shed that skin to emerge as an adult. The new wing cases are still very delicate.

I was keen to see what would happen to the damaged left antenna and was delighted to find that it had regenerated! Isn’t that amazing that a new long antenna could grow within the stub of the old one?

The green in this shot is dull because of the poor light conditions.
