Awaiting the sun

Yesterday S and I were meant to return to the city, with two cats. T Rex because he is staying with us in the apartment while daughter J goes to stay with a friend in Christchurch for a few (shaky) days. Buttercup, who is being kitten sat until Mr H and his mother (and brother) return from staying with friends in Taranaki.

Yesterday, rather than today, because J was unpacking her SmartBox storage where her worldly goods were during her four or so years in the UK, and she wanted her Pa to help. As she only had it for a limited time we needed to be unpacking it from when it was delivered yesterday afternoon.

Two cats were totally uncooperative and hooned off after having breakfast, not to be seen again by the time I had to set off. So S stayed behind. The trip down was ghastly; traffic at a standstill (mostly and a crawl at other times) for the first half hour, or more, after Warkworth. Presumably an "incident", somewhere. After helping J unpack (and being shouted a beer in gratitude) I got my photo of Lord Ponsonby's, and headed back north.

So this morning we would be smarter. I was able to go for a run, during which I got this picture as I went along the foreshore of Snells Beach. I was really challenged when it came to choosing which picture to blip. I chose this one because of the many disparate elements in it, and that I kept the camera on a fairly wide angle. That has made to clouds more of a feature.

Well worth a look in large.

Had to sneak out before the cats realised what I was doing and burst out of the door. Got back to synchronised yowling. Neither was particularly interested in food. Absolutely not interested in sleeping, which is what I thought cats did in preference to every other activity besides eating. Buttercup investigated every window, and climbed on top of everything climbable until a final exasperated growl sent him to hide (alongside T Rex) under our bed.

Eventually put them into their travelling cages and drove south. Fortunately, there were no traffic problems. Not too many yowls on the way back; almost none from T Rex who seemed intent on demonstrating his nonchalant traveller persona (or is it cata?).

J is happy in her new flat in nearby Westmere. She is also having great fun, surprises, and astonishment as she finds what she stored away before leaving for the UK. When she gets back next week, T Rex will have another new home. Buttercup will be back with his own family from tomorrow.
