Pasha Bulker Memorial

On the Esplanade overlooking Nobbys beach is this sculpture by John Petrie in memory of the grounding of the bulk carrier Pasha Bulker on 8 June 2007. The grounding certainly provided not a little amusement for Novacastrians having a bloody big ship wash up on the beach in the storm. It was stuck there until it was pulled off by a number of tugs and the goodwill of the people of Newcastle on 2 July 2007 most of whom were out watching the event. Well I've told you before we are easily entertained.

It was a glorious day today until this evening when thunder storms blew in. This was taken just as the storm was approaching and shows some of the interesting clouds and light we had.

On and on the brown metal plate at the Eastern end of this sculpture used to have a stencil boobs rock on it. Sadly now it is faded. I am not sure whether it was put their by the sculptor. The main part of it I believe was taken from the hull of the ship. I have some jobs to do but will be back later.
