Bishop Auckland

The big picture is a part of the Bishop of Durham's private palace (historically). Its now open to the public. Most of the buildings are covered in scaffolding. There is also a lovely library here that supports the sale of local crafts people's work. I went to see a mining art gallery that is currently featuring a Bob Olley Exhibition. He painted many scenes of life down the mines. He also produced a painting called the Westoe Netty that features a men's urinal with all the blokes peeing. It is a humourous piece with the walls covered in graffiti. Unfortunately there was no photography allowed.
