A Light Bulb Moment

So there I was the other night, sitting up reading my bedtime book, illuminated by the light above, when something fell down and landed next to my thigh. I continued reading but soon realised that the fallen object was quite hot so I had to shift and pick it up, hoping it hadn't melted my PJs.

What had happened was the globe had detached itself from the light unit, which continued to operate as usual. It was an Ecohalogen 70W 240V from Homebase, we have never had any problem before, though it had been in use for some seven or eight years!
