Alanen & Alapuro in Tampere Art Museum

I visited Tampere Art Museum's two exhibitions: Joseph Alanen and Anna Alapuro. In the picture are Alapuro's graphics.

Anna Alapuro (b. 1953) is one of the best-known Finnish graphic artists and wife of my art teacher. I like her colour-saturated graphic works very much. Alapuro creates her works mainly using the laborious carborundum technique, which along with strong colours and the large size of the works makes her graphic prints very painting-like. Anna Alapuro’s works balance between abstract and representative art.

Joseph Alanen (1885–1920) was one of the leading artists to depict subjects from the Kalevala epic, unfortunately he has remained in the margins of art history. His characters are formalised, two-dimensional and decorative, with obvious influences from jugend. The tempera technique and ornamentality create an impression resembling a tapestry. Alanen died of the Spanish flu at the age of 35. Despite this, he managed to paint almost a hundred works on subjects and themes from the Kalevala.

Bought four books from book sale and drove around picking hubby up from work and taking Emma to her practise.
