Maslenitsa

This week is maslenitsa which is like pancake day only sort of a pagan version where it lasts a week and people dress up in 16th century style traditional Russian dress and burn a giant effigy known as ‘lady Maslenitsa’. There are also lots of Slavic folk mythology costumes like this one. It’s also claimed by the orthodox church though and officially welcomes in lent.
