Devastation

After another wet night when the Calder again peaked just below flood level we finally ventured to the allotment.
It is a shocking mess. Lots of our raised beds have had their frames destroyed and the silt that has been dumped everywhere is going to take a lot of sorting out. The shed was full of smelly mud and there was water collected in a couple storage boxes.
We’ve set the waste wood to one side, cleaned the shed, picked up the plastic, sweet and crisp wrappers, and empty drinks cans that have washed in, put one water butt back where it belongs.(no sign of the other one).
We will need to repair the raised beds and shift a lot of silt, get a new butt, and replace the compost bin that has washed away before we can get on with the new growing season, but underneath it mainly makes me so grateful this is my veggie plot and not my home.
And in one small miracle our garden bench hasn’t been washed away down river.
