Fight for the right

The right to take over the land. At the top are young Eastern Red Cedars growing along the edge of the field between it and the woods. In the center a hillside with dense cedar, showing what happens when grazing stops and the field is left to its own devices. The bottom shot shows a patch of little bluestem (Scihizachyrium scoparium, previously Andropogon scoparius). Little bluestem together with big bluestem (Andropogon gerardii)  make up the bulk of the tall grass prairie and provide excellent forage, previously for bison, now mainly for cattle.
