Jakelin Caal Maquin, 7 years old

One of the beautiful portraits from the exhibition “You Will Not Be Forgotten” that we went to see today with my blipper friends in LA. The featured artworks were created by Sandy Rodriguez, an LA-based artist who honors seven of the kids that have died under the border patrol custody in the USA. She drew their faces with great sensibility and beauty and also presented the maps of their arduous trajectories. A pretty sad story, hard to shake.
Her work is influenced by Mayan and Aztec art. I helped edit the Spanish poems that accompany the drawings in the catalog.
Extras: Medicinal plant and border patrol vehicles on the Arizona desert.
