When asked to describe the face he couldn’t
bring to mind any distinguishing features.

‘It was lined,’ he said,
‘and the head was unusual.’

‘Unusual?
In what way unusual?’

He couldn’t say.

The eyes were there.
But unusual.

And there was a nose.
That was unusual too.

And yes,
he seemed to think there was a mouth.

He didn’t remember seeing any ears though.

‘No ears?
No ears at all?’

‘I don’t think so,’ he said.
He paused a while,
trying to refresh his memory.

‘No,’ he said, eventually,
‘as far as I can recall
no ears at all.’
