Something Fishy Going On

TV’s On The Bank fishing presenter Andy Ford saying he had caught “More grayling on this than any other” fly immediately had me hooked and needing to tie his super-weighted fly. The freestone spate rivers around the North of England may well be still in heavy flood with all this rain, but the start of the river trout fly fishing season is nearly upon us in England and will wait for no (fisher)man or woman, whatever the weather.

Only thing is, it is like the delicious food you suddenly yearn to make and eat after reading recipes online, only to discover only have half the ingredients. So it is with tying fly fishing patterns. So here anyway is my first stab at a ‘Quilled Nymph’ pattern minus something called ‘Stripped Peacock Quill’ and ‘Coq de Leon’ tail feathers.

Looks fishy enough to me.
