Mrs Sunderland competition, Halifax Town Hall

We (Louth MVC) spent the day in this magnificent hall competing against other choirs of men, women and both sexes. For purposes of the competitions and this note we will categorise the singers as either male or female though I am not ignorant of the numerous sexual categorisations that are available.

The adjudicator is doing what adjudicators do. We achieved a couple of third places with which we were very satisfied. We did our very best. To do better we would have to recruit much younger singers and be more selective in our recruitment and retention policy; in short, a rather different choir.

It was a real pleasure to listen to the 70 voices in the Colne Valley MVC, the energetic youth in the Peterborough MVC, the acapella group, Cor Bach, and a wonderful mixed (and trained) voice ensemble from Guernsey, the Accidentals.
