A bit chilly for a dip?

But at -17ºC not chilly enough by half to stop this Dipper.

The usual Dipper patch in the river is frozen over, but fortunately, just upstream near the ski bridge, there is a rippled patch that has remained unfrozen. Three Dippers are hard at work all day fighting the cold with the only weapon they have. They simply have to eat fast enough so that their bodies can have surplus energy to burn - enough to keep them warm and active and enough to survive the long frigid nights. Tonight the mercury is already below -27º and will be into the -30ºs for many hours before the sun comes up.

The Dippers will be back there again tomorrow and hard at work all day.
