Bearded Miners

The Bearded Miners in Reefton is a replica mining hut showing how miners lived in the 1860s as they searched for gold in the hills. Didn't actually spot any of the bearded miners, but the hut had plenty of character.

Extra, Reefton is "The Town of Light", in 1888 it became the first place in New Zealand to have a public supply of electricity.
The Fairlie Engine, a steam train designed and built in Bristol but ended up working in a colliery in New Zealand.
