185 Empty Chairs

The 2011 earthquake killed 185 people. This is a very moving memorial to those people, all the different kinds of chair makes you think of them as individuals, who have all left empty chairs in their family's lives.

Extra is at the temporary or 'cardboard' cathedral. It is constructed from metal containers (used a lot in the city as temporary replacements for demolished buildings), 86 cardboard tubes as the roof beams and a clear polycarbon roof.
