Buffalo Soldiers

Sgt Major Bill McCurtis was one of three presenters to tell some of the history of the Buffalo Soldiers to a gathering of about 300 people at the Friends of SaddleBrooke Libraries. The story of the Buffalo Soldiers is largely untold in America.

After the Civil War two black regiments were formed and sent to the West to fight Indians and provide protection to settlers. They distinguished themselves in Cuba during the Spanish-American War. The 9th Cavalry has had 18 Medal of Honor awards. The 10th Cavalry is the most decorated regiment in the Army.

These Regiments continue to be active today.

On a personal note, work continues on processing some 320 photos taken on the 19th. Many of the birds need identification research.
