Cool, Calm, and Collected

Here's Phil in the general reception area of Pacific Cataract and Laser Institute's Bellingham facility this morning, waiting to be called to the area where the cataract procedures are done.

This time last year (Dec. 2011 and Jan. 2012), I had cataract surgery there, so I knew firsthand what a comfortable and easy experience it was. It was interesting to watch Phil's surgery -- about 7 minutes from start to finish -- from the viewing room adjacent to the ambulatory surgery room, and see the same view as the surgeon's through his operating microscope, 40x magnification.

Phil was an easy post-op patient, enjoying his lunch, taking two naps, and eating supper with his usual gusto. I've helped him with his eye drop regimen today, but expect he'll be able to do that on his own tomorrow.

It's good to get that health improvement crossed off the list!

(Here's Phil's self-portrait 1.5 hrs. after the procedure -- looking good! He took the tape off a couple of hours later.)
