Sentinel

There is no clear evidence that what the sentinel was set to watch over still remains active: does it still wait for the signal from its long-gone masters after all this time?  But still the sentinel remains, fulfilling the task it was given long ago, ready to do what will be needed if ever the sleeping horror it guards should awake.

Shortly after taking this picture we were mobbed by what seemed to be herons.  They know we are close now: they follow us everywhere and they will stop at nothing.
