Virginia Getaway

Tomorrow is my husband's birthday and he wanted to go away to the Shenandoah Valley for an overnight getaway.  It is only 90 minutes from home so it makes an easy trip.  We went back to the Wayside Inn, in Middletown, Virginia where which we first stayed 39 years ago.  This inn has been in continuous existence since 1797.  We really were going back because we wanted to have dinner in their wonderful restaurant where they serve the most delicious Peanut Soup, but the restaurant is now only open on the weekend so we were disappointed.   We managed to find a local Italian restaurant and had a mediocre dinner.

We explored the Cedar Creek Civil War battlefield nearby one of the many battles of the Civil War that were fought up and down the Shenandoah Valley.  We mostly just enjoyed being outdoors in the beautiful spring-like weather.

The barn is real and it was really this red....the cow....well, you decide.
