A surburban coot

I had to go to Wimbledon today to see the dentist. I’ve been going there for nearly 20 years and I have never taken the time to visit Wimbledon Park which is only a few minutes walk away. So today I got a coffee then sat by the lake to watch the birds. I think people must feed them as after a while I had collected quite a group of ducks, geese, gulls pigeons and coots , all of whom had an expectant glint in their eyes. This chap was particularly persistent and didn’t believe I had no food. Strangely I had always assumed that coots had webbed feet. I was wrong, apparently they’re from the Rail family and have lobed toes.
