Faculty Parlour

The Faculty Parlour remains fundamentally unchanged since c. 1914, when the American College for Girls in Constantinople, founded in 1890, moved from its Uskudar location to the brand new, purpose built campus in Arnavutkoy. Today, 99 years later, the parlour is used daily to serve tea and coffee to those teachers who can endure the now less-than-comfortable chairs and where I stoically sat for a 75 minute meeting this morning, during which thoughts about my current physical condition prompted me to remember that the furniture upon which we all sat so wretchedly was originally the property of Miss Caroline Borden (1829-1922) of Fall River, Massachusetts. A Bostonian, philanthropist, member of the Women's Board of Missions, active member of the very first Board of Trustees here and - relative of the infamous Lizzie. Go Google.
