Flower Friday. : : Tulips

Today seemed like a pretty calm day. The Pilates teachers are trying to decide whether to close the studio but as long as people keep showing up for classes they will continue to clean the heck out of the place and wipe down every surface. They have put out a call for disinfectant wipes which are nowhere to be found. They always have a huge bucket of them but don’t know how they will replace it.

I know everybody is going through the same thing so if you aren’t eager to read about our particular family feel free to skip the next four paragraphs....they’re for the record.

My well worn mantra of ‘one day at a time’ is still proving its usefulness. A text from Dana from the Heathrow Hilton says that their flight tomorrow (Saturday) was cancelled but they have managed to get on another one arriving later in the evening. They will have to self-quarantine for two weeks when they get home. Looks like we’ll be doing the shopping...the old folks looking after the younger ones....that’s a switch...

Since most of the places they went on their brief visit to Barcelona were practically deserted, if they do catch something, it will be on the flight home. Jim said the hotel was full of people trying to get out of Europe.

My Italian niece says they are doing fine and staying healthy. The only place she goes is to the grocery store to shop for her family and her husband’s parents. She wears gloves and a mask. The thing that keeps her sane is her 7 mile run but she can’t leave the commune without permission. Emma, their thirteen year old daughter is receiving remote classes from her school in Torino, but it’s impossible to conduct a dance class (the reason she goes to school in Torino) remotely, so those have been cancelled.

Granddaughter Claire tells me that Vasser College has gone to remote classes until the middle of April when they will re-evaluate. She has to get up at 6am in LA to start her classes from New York. I haven’t spoken to Julia, but Connecticut College is closed for the term. I don’t know how they are handling classes, but the college is arranging for a moving company to pack up her clothes and books and ship them to her.

Trump called a press conference to try and
Impress the public with how much he is doing in this crisis. Two people at his Mar a Lago Resort are now sick with Covid-19. He hasn’t been tested yet, but says he ‘probably will’. I hope he gets it...he’s been exposed to a number of people with it, but I would hate to think he’s running around exposing others because he’s too proud scared stupid can’t get a test kit all of the above. When asked for his response for why his administration shut down the pandemic task force established by Obama after the Ebola outbreak his exact response was, “I didn’t do it”...
