If you can't beat them...

Red Squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris) on feeder

Another Squirrel shot I am afraid but this "social distancing" lark doesn't give too many opportunities and it is likely to get worse before it gets better.

The reason for the shot basically stems from yesterday but I forgot to record it and didn't manage to blip the happening.  When I looked out of the window yesterday there was a Rook sitting on the platform of the squirrel feeder.  OK lots of birds gaze through the front at what is inside.  The Rook however had different ideas.  Using its beak it lifted the lid, just as it is designed for the squirrels to do.  Then poking its head in it grabbed a Monkey nut (the complete unshelled sort) and off it went.

The feeder for anybody thinking of having a squirrel feeder is made and sold by the Penrith and District red Squirrel Group.  They are rotproof recycled plastic (Stokbord) and proceeds go to helping the squirrels.
