A Window in the Clouds...

...observed through the window in the kitchen..Thanks to ApolloFly for hosting.

After much discussion we decided to go to Pilates this morning. We took our own mats and and knew that it was a small class and that most of the people in it are probably over 65. We picked up the newspaper at the bottom of the driveway as we were driving out, reading on the way to class that The Governor of California, Gavin Newsome, is recommending that 'seniors' self quarantine for the next two weeks.

At class the teacher was wiping down the door handles and handing out disinfectant wipes. They must have found a source of hand sanitizer because they had a full bottle when last week they were asking if anybody knew where some could be had. All five of us brought our own mats and she taught a classic Pilates class with no props. I haven't decided whether I will go back  and the teachers haven't decided whether to stay open. I have decided that if they have to close, I will continue to pay my monthly fee. I love the studio and have become friends with the teachers, and I know that having to close will be very difficult for them. They still have to pay rent.

After more discussion, four of us decided to go to Trail House for coffee...another place we love that would really suffer if they had to close. In the Trail house, half the chairs at the communal tables and half the bar stools had been removed to allow for 'social distancing'. There is an outdoor patio but, having had an unseasonably balmy spring, the weather has now turned positively wintry, so we all shouted at each other across the social distance inside.

Back home again, I wiped down all the light switches, doorknobs and handles with bleach solution. I'm not exactly sure why, since it is just John and the dog and me, but the kitchen has never been so clean. And my hands have never been so dry. Soap and water is bad. Hand sanitizer is worse.

The quote of the day comes from Blipper Lady Findhorn.
There's nothing like a pandemic ro get the children telling you what to do. The roles have been reversed and it can only get worse. Can you imagine the tantrums we could have (if we are grounded for an extended period) and then what will they do? Taking away our smart phones and iPads isn't going to help and making us sit on the naughty step will be farcical...

In  Italy they call the 'naughty step' being 'in castigo' and I think the Italians are already there....
