Xochimilco

The Catedral remained closed this morning but a big clean-up operation was in progress in the Zocalo. We had a wander down to the slightly scary Central Market (via the amazing Central Post Office) and then caught the Metro/Train to Xochimilco and spent a very pleasant couple of hours drifting along the ancient canals in one of these brightly-coloured boats whilst marine taco vendors and mariachi boats meandered by trying to sell us food, beer and music. Later on we dropped by the Zocalo again to see if they'd finally raised the massive flag that had been taken down ahead of the weekend's protests (we'd been advised to check it out) only to find that the rope had been cut by protesters and the army were there trying to mend it with a big roll of gaffa tape. Instead we went for a very nice meal at a restaurant that apparently featured (briefly) in the Bond Movie Spectre (they even had a bronze plaque up outside to tell us) - we checked it out on youtube later and there it was indeed...
