Election Night at Grant Park

I decided to take the train to Chicago for what was being billed as Election Night at Grant Park. I didn't have a ticket to get into the part of the park where Obama was to appear, but the north section of the park had giant screens blaring CNN and its election coverage.

No matter, it was a glorious night.

As a child of the 60s, it wasn't lost on me that in this very same place where we celebrated the beginning of the end of the Bush regime, forty years earlier Chicago police had violently quelled anti-war demonstrations.

On this night, all was peaceful. A little garbage strewn, but peaceful. Riot police on horseback laughed and talked with people as they left Grant Park and flooded Michigan Avenue and the other blocked-off downtown streets.

Change.
