Lent 2020 day 33

’The Lord will surely comfort Zion and will look with compassion on all her ruins; he will make her deserts like Eden, her wastelands like the garden of the Lord.’ (Isaiah 51:3)

‘Make do and mend’ by Gideon Heugh:

Though our dreams lie in ruin around us,
and fear is the favoured trend,
though events continue to confound us
we will make do, and mend.

Though our hearts are weary and bruised,
and disappointment seems our only friend,
though justice is discarded and power abused
we will make do, and mend.

Because the Earth bears the wounds of greed – the desire to acquire and build and spend,
because creation cries out in need
we will make do, and mend.

Even if our hopes are entombed by the night
we will stand firm until the end,
and even as we wait for the coming of the light
we will make do, and mend.
