Lent 2020 day 35

’Anyone who sets himself up as “religious” by talking a good game is self-deceived. This kind of religion is hot air and only hot air. Real religion, the kind that passes muster before God the Father, is this: Reach out to the homeless and loveless in their plight, and guard against corruption from the godless world.’ (James 1:27)

Here is one of the “homeless” we are housing - although it is a symbiotic relationship!

Les Isaac writes:
“A Muslim once said to me, ‘If everyone would stick to the Bible, we would live in a far better world.’ His comments were telling. It’s an example of how our society today is looking for authentic Christianity. People are looking for those who not only carry the name, but whose lives reflect the life of Jesus.

We need to remember that we’ve been called to speak the gospel, live the gospel and show the gospel. To be faithful in consistent service to the orphan, weak, poor and vulnerable. The gospel is holistic – and it’s not about us. It’s about Jesus, and doing exactly what he would do. And he came to serve.

The creator of the universe came to seek relationship with us. He wants to include us in his work. It humbles me to think that the God of the universe is willing to include me in his plans, and that I can serve him as I reach out to the marginalised in our society. Will you?”
