Das weiße Gold

Is actually the title of an article on my company's intranet.  The White Gold in English.

White Gold is a term usually associated with the Hanseatic city of Lüneberg in Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony) which prospered from selling salt (mainly used for pickling herring caught in the Baltic Sea).

But enough history.  The story on my company's website was an announcement because of all the shortages that they were going to start producing their own toilet paper (from recycled copies of old contracts) and that every employee would receive a packet every week in the post.  Customers who took out new contracts with us would also receive a packet of loo roll with their documentation.

The article said the company was also looking at producing it's own brand yeast (another thing that has been the subject of panic buying, presumably by the people who bought all the flour) and disinfectant.

Of course it wasn't serious.  More to do with the date - ein Aprilscherz as we say here.

Work was work.  And the sun shone all day.  No use to me when I'm working.
