Torphichen Preceptory

The preceptory was part of the Crusader Knights Hospitaller founded in 1099. Not sure why they needed a base all the way up North here?
The site may even have origins with a church built here linked to St Ninian and King Arthur.
The Hospitaller's disbanded in 1564 with the Protestant reformation.
Today it's the ceremonial focus for the Order of St John of Jerusalem, established in Victorian times. All very Dan Brown
