Was It Really So Long Ago

Cowslip

Beneath the majority of our lawn, lies two large vegetable patches. They haven't been cultivated for around twenty years, perhaps more when the previous owners (the Sages I think) grew a plethora of horticultural delights for the table over the 50 years they lived here. In their twilight years, unable as they were to tend the large plots, the vegetables gave way to grass, amongst a host of other plants generally considered weeds in a lawn.

We chose to embrace this diverse verdant carpet of plants and enhance its spring and summer appeal with a number of additions, mostly distributed in seed form straight from the packet in the autumn. This example is a cowslip resulting from seeds thrown at the lawn in late August 2019 and pictured just hours before Miss Fluffy came along and bit its head off.

Thankfully, there are others, although it might just be a matter of time...
