Road Closed

We heard the heavy rain as we played Scrabble, but then noticed blue flashing lights through a crack in the window shutters. Of course we looked outside to discover the road had turned into a river, and the fireman used hoses to keep water from flowing into our neighbours home opposite (on the left in this picture). The rest of our evening was spent helping out in the battle to stop the worst of the flooding.

Thankfully the water coming off the hill came through our garden but not into the house (apart from a little in the cellar). None of us in the street had ever seen anything quite like this, certainly not as sustained.
