Grounded

Spent a few hours this afternoon at the annex to the national Air & Space museum, where you can see all manner of flying machines.

The space shuttle Discovery (featured here) was a highlight for visitors -- young and old. I remember seeing it flown over Washington to its final resting place here last spring.

One of the Concordes is also on display here. That brought back fond memories: I had a chance to fly in it from NY to Paris and back many years ago. What a unique experience that was to feel that burst of energy that pushes you gently back into your seat as you break Mach speed. Three hours to destination in complete luxury although the seats are surprisingly small. The "regular" customers were a treat to observe as well: wealthy older women with crocodile skin from sun over-exposure, hands covered in diamonds; sheiks with their entourage of women and kids; (self?)important businessmen; and a sprinkling of celebs. I was the only wide-eyed person in the lot! :)
