the snow drop

The snow-drop, Winter's timid child,
Awakes to life bedew'd with tears;
And flings around its fragrance mild,
And where no rival flowrets bloom,
Amidst the bare and chilling gloom,
A beauteous gem appears!

-Mary Robinson

sidenote : these snowdrops in my backyard are growing through old fall leaves; it's adorable to see how they've persevered and popped right through! a couple other photos i took show the holes they've made in the leaves, but they didn't make the blip cut :)
