New beginnings

J + 26 - Dieulefit où nul n’est étranger

While most of the south of France is catholic, in Dieulefit a large proportion of the population is protestant, as the village welcomed huguenots when they were persecuted. The village also sheltered more than a thousand refugees including many jews during the second world war with several villagers gaining the title of “Righteous among the nations”.
The tradition of welcoming newcomers continues to this day and we were amazed with the number of invitations we received during our first weeks here. We now have to wait until the end of the lockdown to return the favour.
