Resurrection

The sudden appearance of several of these yellow jobs (not quite dandelions, from their roots, but what?) in the grass, and of my first butterfly of the year, seemed a suitable metaphor of resurrection for today. The celebration of the Eucharist via Zoom in the morning, a good long chat over coffee  with our friends (on Whereby this time) - these were the bright spots in what was physically a lovely day but psychologically anything but. I really must avoid reading worst case scenario pieces reminding us of the prevailing fortunes of another corona virus ...

The resurgence of church continues to amaze. Over 50 people "attended" our service this morning, and the 10 o'clock news made more mention of church than I recall in years. Some people "doing church" in this way seemed fired up by the experience; others, like me, with faith roots in the beauty of music, liturgy and place, are unable to do more than cling on to the roots. Mr PB and I recorded some hymns and the gloria for today; people seemed to like it, so we can take comfort in being of some use. And I read a marvellous satire on The Crucible - but that's a theme for another post.
