Holocaust Candle

Large scale persecutions of the Jews began at Kristallnacht in 1938 and continued until 27th January 1945 when Auschwitz was liberated by the Allies. More then a million Jews and many others had died at the Nazi camp and so today is Holocaust Memorial Day when throughout the land candles have been lit to remember those killed by the Nazis and people of subsequent genocides such as in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia, Darfur and places like Syria where whole communities are being destroyed.

This year's theme is Communities Together: Build a Bridge, encouraging groups and individuals to come together and consider how neighbours have turned on each other, and challenges us to build stronger and more tolerant communities.
