Memory is a Funny Old Thing

As daffodils and Tulips give way to flowering shrubs such as Azaleas what caught my eye this morning was some Bamboo  I must have walked past it countless times already but not really noticed it until today. As the advice says, if left untendered it becomes invasive. This is the case here its left its garden home and is starting to spread over that no-mans land between private fence line and public road.

But that's not what its about; its about memory. Because within seconds I was taken back 55 years to summer holidays staying with my Grandmother and her second husband Tom who was Head Park Keeper for Eastbourne Borough Council's Hampden Park.

For the greater part of two weeks we would accompany Tom on his many tasks. One of which was maintaining a small maze grown entirely out of bamboo.
