Angel of the what?

...when I first heard about this statue, my (no doubt press-influenced) opinion wasn't positive.

...then I drove past it.

It really is incredibly impressive. Awesome, in the truest sense. I've passed it a couple of times since, and was determined to stop. We were on our way down to a wedding in Leeds, and Mrs Geek and the Geeklets were readily persuaded. It's even more impressive close up.

My only gripe is this: how can it be "The Angel of the North" when we had to drive south for 6 hours to get there?
