St Mary's Church

Another church, this time St Mary's Church in West Horsley. The foundations of this church were laid in 1030 by a Saxon thane and some Saxon walls still remain today. Although William the Conqueror burnt down the village of West Horsley he did not destroy any of its churches. The church tower was built in 1120. I am always amazed at how so many really old buildings still exist in England today!
