Carving

This is a Chinese wood carving that I bought in Taipei, Taiwan in 1984. I had it shipped back in that it was far too fragile to bring back in my carry-on. The reason I did a photo of it today is that one of my friends collects Chinese art. This photo also served two purposes. The full size statue is in the Extra.

The wood is sandalwood. Being an aromatic wood, it still retains its fragrance, all these years later.  It is Kwan Kin, the Goddess of Mercy & Compassion, a Buddhist figure.
