Crazy About Birds

Tufted Titmouse

There's a big rush of nest building going on around here these days. I spent part of the morning watching a pair of Carolina wrens bringing nesting materials to a paper bag on our front porch - in The Husband's "going to the Goodwill" area - which seems like an odd place to build a nest, but that's how Carolina wrens roll. The nest spot is very convenient for watching out the window in the living room - so that's a plus.

Then this afternoon I caught this tufted titmouse working really really hard to pull soft fluffy stuff off a thingy - probably a duster of some kind? - that is one of the many odd objects that The Husband has hung from the eaves of our front porch - as decor, dontcha know...

And as far as a few glimpses can tell, the bluebirds in the purple martin house may well be already sitting on eggs. Since they chose the room that faces away from the house, it's hard to watch them. But one has been witnessed coming out on a couple of occasions - so we think they're doing their baby producing thing.
