Hiorne Tower

The flint on the tower walls glinted in the sunlight this morning. Some people refer to it as a folly, but it has been used to fly warning flags of shooting parties on the estate in the 1960s. It was also a family home for some years. Now the entrance gate is chained up and razor wire adorn the walls. The stinging nettles surround the building. Legend locally has it that the ghost of a young girl haunts it. Thwarted in love, she threw herself off the top of the tower. Nowadays it seems a peaceful place. The only noise is birdsong and sheep in the fields.
