Defying The Odds, Aylesford

Another long walk today. This time we went up through Eccles and then along the access road toward the new Peters Village. The road steadily climbs to it's peak which is where we left it to walk sharply down through a field. At this point, quite high up in the Downs, the ground is very white due to the chalk and the dust from this kicks up with every footstep so that, from ankle to knee, our jeans looked like they had faded in a matter of a few minutes.
As we got closer to the foot of the field the soil underneath was very hard and compacted. We haven't had any proper rain for over a month so I'm not surprised it is so dry. Hopefully, for the famers' sake, we will get some rain soon. We were then back in the Valley In Between, only this time walking it in the reverse direction to the normal way we go. Today's main shot is of an old fence I spotted that seemed to be defying the laws of gravity - it's angle looked like it could collapse at any moment. I liked the contrast with what looked like much sturdier trees behind it.
The extra, "Millie, Elizabeth & Arthur Too" is an image of the massive concrete barrier that used to block the route through the Valley In Between. At some point during the last few months this has been moved aside by, I'm presuming, a JCB or the like and scrawled on by some children who happened to be passing by.
