Provoking addition?

Today's image is not particularly good, but it serves to make a point. Maidstone's Museum is housed in an Elizabethan Manor House, which was extended by the Victorians in sympathy with, and almost exactly the same as, the original building.

Last year a new extension was opened, as shown in this image. The development has divided opinion.
